this setup was by far the easiest casting of the various rigs used during our trip. The hatch of these giant stoneflies only lasts a few days, but it has a profound effect on the fishing: we were able to spend a couple of days fishing with a big bushy dry fly with a large (about two inches long) stonefly nymph on a vertical dropper below.

The nymphs of the Salmon Fly swim to the edge of the river and then crawl out onto low-hanging vegetation before emerging as adults, and so the Trout lie in wait in the undercut banks. This time our visit coincided with the Salmon Fly hatch for which the Big Hole River is so famous. We were a party of six experienced fly fishers. The Club can also arrange guiding on the rivers if required. The beautifully appointed Club has its own three mile stretch of the Big Hole River which guests are free to fish at any time during their stay. We stayed at the palatial Silver Bow Club, which is about a 10 mile drive from the Sunrise Fly Shop in Melrose, through which we had booked our guiding for the eight days of fishing.
